The Fiberary

A personal blog about clothes, fiber arts, librarianship, books, and occasional bad poetry.

Flax is harvested!

Exactly 31 days after the first bloom ☺️. The flowers were so pretty in the morning sunlight and I can’t wait to plant more next year. Not sure my neighbors would approve of the whole yard eventually being just flax, but gosh would I love it.

The white blossoms are from seeds I got last year!
A stook!! Of flax I grew from seed!!!
All of the seed pods

Also started my own first indigo vat! I used iron as the reducing agent. It’s made some really interesting blues of different shades.

Wrap belt, sewn then dyed with indigo, then added tassels and beads and embroidery for some character. I’ve been really inspired by prehistory and early history civilations and their clothes lately.
An Obi for you

I also taught some more of my friends to spin yarn recently! And they have enjoyed it, so I’m calling that a win.

One friend’s first yarn. It looks fantastic!

In sadder news, my grandmother passed away recently after several months of illness. She had great strength of spirit and was much loved.
